The eighth issue of the Journal includes historical essays by Prof. Jan Białostocki, with an introduction by Prof. Antoni Ziemba, as well as a shocking diary from the Warsaw Uprising written by its participant and MNW employee Zygmunt Miechowski, and edited by Prof. Alina Kowalczykowa and Anna Szczepańska. The section on Old Masters has a fascinating essay by Barbara A. Kamińska from Sam Houston State University. The author conducts an in-depth, multi-threaded analysis of one of the most valuable artworks in the MNW collection: the painting Seven Works of Mercy by Pieter Aertsen. Two articles by Dorota Juszczak and Konrad Niemira present new findings on the biography and work of Marcello Bacciarelli. In the section on Polish design, we present, among others, the museum’s Gallery of Polish Design. Another fascinating section focuses on the Paderewski exhibition, which took place in 2018. We also remember our dearly missed MNW colleague, Hanna Benesz.
