Iwona Maria Stefańska – graduated from the Faculty of Conservation and Restoration of Works of Art of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. She has been involved in conservation projects both as a member of a team (e.g., Giotto di Bondone’s frescoes of scenes from the life of St John the Evangelist, Cappella Peruzzi, Basilica of Santa Croce, Florence) and on her own (e.g., Giambattista Tiepolo, The Adoration of the Shepherds, Nationalmuseum, Stockholm; Palma il Vecchio, Sacra Conversazione, Museo Capodimonte, Naples). Currently at the National Museum in Warsaw, she has been engaged in the conservation of paintings, which have included Giovanni Battista Cima da Conegliano’s Imago Pietatis and Joos van Cleve’s Saint Reinhold, and has taken part in conservation-and-research projects, including Maerten van Heemskerck’s Ecce Homo in cooperation with the Getty Museum, Los Angeles. She has been the recipient of grants from the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR) and the government of Italy. She has held internships at the Istituto Superiore per la Conservazione ed il Restauro (ISCR) in Rome, Opificio delle Pietre Dure e Laboratori di Restauro in Florence and the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM). She has published in art conservation journals and written catalogue notes, including Serenissima. Światło Wenecji [Serenissima. The Light of Venice] (1999).
