Anna Demska graduated in Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology from the University of Warsaw’s Faculty of History in 1986. In 1987 she began working at the NMW’s Modern Design Centre, where she is currently a curator. She specializes in 20th-century Polish design and decorative arts, focusing in particular on unique and mass-produced textiles. Demska has written articles about kilim carpets, batik as well as contemporary woven and printed fabrics. Her research also concerns the role played by Polish folk art and craft in contemporary design. She is the co-author of numerous exhibitions and accompanying publications, such as: Spółdzielnia Artystów „Ład” 1926–1996 [“Ład” Artists’ Cooperative 1926–1996] (1996–97), Prof. Eleonora Plutyńska 1886–1969 (1998), Rzeczy pospolite. Polskie wyroby 1899–1999 [Common wealth. Polish products 1899–1999] (2000–1), Między tradycją a nowoczesnością. IWP w poszukiwaniu tożsamości we wzornictwie [Between tradition and modernity. The Institute of Polish Design in search of identity in design] (2001), We Want to Be Modern. Polish Design 1955–68 from the Collection of the National Museum in Warsaw (2011–12) and Etnodizajn wczoraj i dziś – inspiracje czy naśladownictwo [Ethno design yesterday and today – inspiration or imitation] (2014).
Anna Maga is an art and design historian. Having graduated in Art History from the University of Warsaw’s Faculty of History in 1981, she began working at the NMW’s Modern Design Centre, where she is curator of the collection. She oversees the collection of design, particularly furniture and glass in Poland after 1945 and most recent design. Maga co-organized a number of exhibitions, including several influential ones, such as: Spółdzielnia Artystów „Ład” (1997–1998) [“Ład” Artists’ Cooperative 1926–1996] (1996–97), Rzeczy pospolite – polskie wyroby 1899–1999 [Common wealth. Polish products 1899–1999] (2000–1), We Want to Be Modern. Polish Design 1955–68 from the Collection of the National Museum in Warsaw (2011–12). These exhibitions were accompanied by publications she co-authored. Maga studies and popularizes the achievements of Polish design, and acquires new objects for the museum’s collection, gaining knowledge about them and their authors in the process. She cooperated with the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, contributing to an English publication promoting Polish design abroad: Out of the Ordinary. Polish Designers of the 20th Century (2011).
