Prof. Dr Hab. Maria Poprzęcka is a professor of Art History, long-time Director of the Institute of Art History of the University of Warsaw, currently working as a professor at the Faculty of Artes Liberales of the same university. She is the author of many books, e.g., Na oko [As far as the eye can see] (2015); Uczta bogiń. Kobiety, życie i sztuka [The feast of goddesses. Women, life and art] (2012); Inne obrazy. Oko, widzenie, sztuka. Od Albertiego do Duchampa [Other images. The eye, perception, art. From Alberti to Duchamp] (2008); Pochwała malarstwa. Studia z historii i teorii sztuki [The praise of painting. Studies in the history and theory of art] (2001); O złej sztuce [On bad art] (1998); Akademizm [Academicism] (1977, 1989). In 2009, she received the Gdynia Literary Award in essay-writing, in 2014 – the Jerzy Stajuda Art Criticism Award and the Mieczysław and Ksawery Pruszyński PEN Club award.
