Rocznik Muzeum Narodowego w Warszawie. Nowa Seria / Journal of the National Museum in Warsaw. New Series is a digital academic journal published by the National Museum in Warsaw. It features peer-reviewed, previously unpublished research findings.
Aims and scope
The journal’s distinctive character stems from its dedication to the objects kept at the National Museum in Warsaw as well as various aspects of its collections, institutional history and activities. It publishes scholarly articles on art history, museology and heritage conservation, with the aim of disseminating knowledge about the museum’s holdings and encouraging further research by readers and scholars from Poland and around the world. As a bilingual journal, with each article published in both Polish and English, it is able to play a role in international academic exchange.
Open access
The journal follows the principles of open access as understood by COPE. Authors are not charged any fees for the submission, processing, or publication of their manuscripts. All published articles are made available immediately upon publication, with no embargo period, in full text and under an open licence (CC BY).
Authors retain the copyright and full publishing rights without restrictions and embargoes.
All published content is available online free of charge to readers, without the need for registration and without technical restrictions that would hinder access to the full texts. Users may read, download, copy, distribute, print, and use the articles in accordance with the terms of the applicable licence, provided that the authors and the source of publication are properly cited.
Archiving
Copies of published issues of the journal are deposited in the Digital Repository of the National Library of Poland. Back issues are available without restrictions on the journal’s website in the archive section.
Repository policy
The published version is stored in accordance with the journal's archiving policy at the National Library and in the journal’s archive. The accepted and submitted versions are not stored; the author has full rights to dispose of them.
History of the Journal
Rocznik Muzeum Narodowego w Warszawie. Nowa Seria / Journal of the National Museum in Warsaw. New Series was established by Agnieszka Morawińska in 2012 as a continuation of the museum’s historical publications: Rocznik Muzeum Narodowego w Warszawie / Annuaire du Musée National de Varsovie (published in 1938–1992) and Bulletin du Musée National de Varsovie (last issued in 2009).
Between 2012 and 2023 the journal was published in print format, with its graphic and typographic design created by Janusz Górski. Since 2024 it has been available exclusively in digital format, ensuring greater accessibility and a broader impact within the academic community.
The journal is published by the National Museum in Warsaw and funded by the institution.
Academic Council
The Academic Council of the Rocznik Muzeum Narodowego w Warszawie. Nowa Seria / Journal of the National Museum in Warsaw. New Series comprises active and renowned scholars from Poland, other European countries and the United States, representing the fields of art history, museology and heritage conservation. The Academic Council serves a supporting role for the editorial team, providing expert opinions on the academic and editorial quality of the journal and advising on the selection of articles for upcoming issues.
